Africa will shape the future of Bitcoin – Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey
The future of Bitcoin (BTC) is “determined” by Africa,
… which one of his most famous proponents predicted after completing a Kontinental.Tour.
In a tweet on November 27, Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, announced that he would return to Africa in 2020 after traveling to Nigeria and Ghana this month.
That statment say all about it in lees words!
Dorsey highlights Africa’s bitcoin potential
“Africa will determine the future of Bitcoin,” he said, explaining that he plans to spend up to six months on the continent next year.
During his stay in Nigeria, Dorsey attended a BTC meeting and continued to campaign for the cryptocurrency.
The tech mogul has become famous for its BTC support as it has committed to integrating its functionality into both Twitter and Square. He has also publicly recommended the Lightning Network as a payment solution that allows Bitcoin users to transfer money immediately and at no charge.
Government reacts slowly
Dorsey’s comments come as Africa continues to arouse great interest in Bitcoin. Nigeria has regularly been among the most active countries in Bitcoin Google search, as well as other African countries like South Africa, Cointelegraph reported.
Lagos, the most populous city in Nigeria, will become a huge metropolis with over 32 million inhabitants in 2050, making it an important market for the cryptocurrency. According to the World Economic Forum, it will be the most populated city in the world by 2100.
In total, 13 of the world’s 20 most populous cities will be in Africa by the next century.
Local government has so far classified Bitcoin as risk averse. This month, Ghana announced that it is considering a digital central bank currency (CBDC) that is in line with China’s plans.
Nigeria has not yet adopted formal regulation of cryptocurrency.
